Wedding Photographers in Bend Oregon Ranch at the Canyons Wedding Everyone is different. I am happy to keep my arrangements flexible to help everyone into their wedding photography comfortably. For the most part it's best to meet up if we can. We can meet online or talk on the phone if meeting up is not convenient. It's helpful to make sure we are a good match. Once we have decided to work together I ask 50% of the package you are interested in to book the date and the other 50% on or before the wedding date. I also ask we put a contract together that basically says I will be there for your wedding photography and you will pay the amount of the package.
Transportation fees, I am happy to provide my wedding photography to anyone anywhere. Within the Pacific Northwest I do not charge for travel unless I need air travel or lodging. For this wedding at Ranch at the Canyons I think I drove about 4 hours each way.
Location scouting, I find it is helpful to be comfortable in knowing my surroundings on the wedding day. It helps me feel more comfortable in my work knowing I am photographing with the best locations and using the best light for the given situation. Some wedding venues I have been to many times and the location has been scouted at many events in the past. Some wedding venues are not possible to scout in advance. If it is not possible to view the venue ahead I would arrive a little early to make sure I was familiar with all of the areas we will be in on the wedding day. Location scouting is not always possible. I do find it can be helpful. Location scouting is always included in any package. For this wedding at Ranch at the Canyons all of the wedding vendors had a walk though together in the early spring. It can be helpful to see the space before the event. Sometimes a bit of time to think about the event space can let some good ideas begin to flow.
Wedding day arrival, I usually arrive early enough to walk around and see everything in its place before I begin my work. Some of my lighting is only used late in the evening if at all. Extra gear and light stands are all tucked away for easy access during the reception without moving back and forth through the parking lot.
Begging the wedding day photography, I usually stop in to say hello to everyone first. Checking in to make sure all is well and spirits are high. Sometimes it is important to prioritize or change the plan quickly!
Getting ready wedding photography, I usually begin my wedding day photography with photos of things like the wedding dress and jewelry. Photos of people pinning boutonnières and tying neckties are all help to tell a great story. Bridesmaids having some fun relaxing with a drink after all the work of getting ready is complete. Photographing the final portions of putting the wedding dress and suit in place tell a very good story about the wedding day. Lots of great feelings here. Attention to detail is really important for these wedding photographs. Getting in there for the details. Longer lenses let me get in close without being in your personal space. I find this helpful.
First look, Some brides and grooms want to have the first look at the ceremony. Some brides and grooms will get ready together and help each other prepare. Most prefer to have a first look hours ahead of the wedding. This gives us great opportunity for putting together and collecting wedding photography that helps to tell a really good story about your wedding day. Generally a first look has the groom in place facing away from the brides entrance point. The groom is asked to spin around for his first look of the wedding dress. Some of my grooms are pretty tough guys. Some of my grooms have cried. Everyone is different. Lots of emotions. I collect a good amount of photos at a respectful distance. Some couples exchange gifts at this point. Some exchange private vows. I do try to remain in a documentary photography role at this point only gently adding input about direction and pose if it is really necessary.
Photos of the bride and groom together In my opinion the most important photos of the day. Photos of the bride and groom alone should happen twice if possible. First, after first look. Second, at sunset. Many amazing moments will happen through the wedding day naturally. A photojournalist wedding photographer will easily capture all of these moments. Taking some time together for photos adds to our success in wedding photography for the day. I usually will take the bride and groom to a collection of backgrounds and move through a hand full of poses at each background. The moments in between the pose and the being ourselves are the moments a photojournalist wedding photographer is looking for. Sure the fine art pose wedding photos are great. The best, the very best wedding photography comes from the documentary wedding photography. Waiting for the right moment in between all the other moment.
Bridal party wedding photography, Usually wedding party or bridal party photos happen just after photos of the bride and groom together before the wedding ceremony. Just as with photos of the bride and groom I am happy to take more time to create interesting and fun photos of you and your wedding party. Just understand and allow more time for better photos. That is the real secret to success in this area.
Family photos incorporated into the wedding photography, Most weddings will find time for family photos. Usually it works best to find time for this early in the day before the ceremony. This allows you to enjoy your reception a little more free with all your work done. Before the party everyone can concentrate a little better and focus on the wedding photographer a little easier. There are some weddings where it works best to take family photos during the reception. If having family involved early is too much for any reason the reception is a great place to let this happen.
Wedding ceremony photography, With wedding ceremony photography the best approach is the documentary wedding photographer approach. I find good angles and work walk around the back of the ceremony and photograph the event with longer lenses that allow close ups from a distance that will not interfere with the wedding ceremony.
Wedding reception photography, Each wedding will have a different timeline and set of events that will happen naturally. The best thing is to wait for the events and photograph them as they happen. Very little in the way of sculpting or asking people to pose is necessary. Perhaps asking for a smile every now and again or moving around for the best light is the proper approach for the documentary wedding photographer.
Editing the wedding photography, Thousands of images are taken at most weddings. They need to be organized, edited, color corrected, touched up, cropped, uploaded to your server for download. First the bad photos are removed, accidentally clicking the shutter, blinked eyes. turned heads. All these errors needs to go. Curating the collection to begin. Each time I raise my camera the subject is photographed a handful of times at least. The best of these images is to remain and the rest must go. Correcting the light. Without getting too technical. the photos need help and I am here for you with this. All the look and feel need to fall in line with the creative direction of the shoot. Touching up the images is a light and gentle process. I can move a spot of a face or a piece of clothing. I cannot change the shape of a body. I cannot give better haircuts. These things are possible with third party retouching services. I am happy to help point you in the right direction if this becomes necessary. I have only seen two or three clients who wanted this out of 700 weddings at this point.
Social media peek, If all are interested I am happy to post a handful of my favorite photos from your wedding a few days out.
Receiving your wedding photography, Most weddings are edited and available for download within two weeks. There are exceptions on either side of this mark. Some weeks are very busy and back up the editing process a week. Some weddings are shorter and are not flanked by weddings on either day. Editing can be as little as a week. All the wedding photos are available in JPEG in a high resolution download.
Wedding Album, Wedding albums require selecting cover material, size, shape. Once we have your specs I create a rough draft based on my own best judgment. Then we go back and forth until we have a final draft. The press for your wedding album has a busy season around the holidays. Expect months at the holidays for your album to be pressed. In the summer months pressing an album and shipping out can be about two weeks.
