I specialize in capturing the proposal moment on camera. My goal is to capture the emotion and excitement of the proposal as well as the joy and happiness of the couple after their big day.

I am based out of Portland Oregon and travel throughout the Pacific Northwest.
I am available for destination weddings, elopements, proposals, and any other occasion where you would like to share your special moments with friends and family.

I either come along with the group of friends and have my camera out the whole time or I set up with my camera at a vista before the couple arrive where I hide in plain sight.
If I am tagging along with a big group, I usually have my camera out the whole time. I would be happily clicking away from the beginning. No suspicions are given by an busy camera enthusiast. It's a sight easily ignored. When the proposal happens it's easy to be ready.
If the couple is arriving alone together it's a good plan to have the camera set up at our pre-determined location. Popular views and destinations usually have photographers hanging around. Taking photos the whole time when the proposal begins I begin.

If you've been thinking about taking engagement photos at night, here are some tips to help you make them work for you. 1) Choose a location some ambient light. You'll need enough light to see what you're doing, but not so much that you lose the shadows. Photos from nighttime shoot only have backgrounds that show from illuminated sources. Capacities or indoor locations will work well. Outdoor at night with no ambient light the photos take much longer to expose. 2) Wear whatever you like. Some clients change outfits. Some clients use just the one. 3) Bring a tripod. A tripod will allow you to take longer exposures without losing image quality.
4) Off Camera flash should be used sparingly. Two - four units will provide a studio light look in a out of studio setting.

A view over the city. A view across the water. A private wooded hillside. Let the clients interest guide the location for the photo shoot. The best locations for engagement photos are ones where there is something interesting happening in the background. If you want to capture the couple looking at each other, then look for a location with a strong foreground. For example, if you want to show them looking into each others eyes, then choose a location with a strong background. Look for a place with lots of trees, flowers, or buildings. You might find a spot to see the beautiful sunset. Or maybe a park bench or a bridge would be a nice backdrop. Whatever the setting, make sure that the background has some kind of visual interest.
Keep the posing to a minimum. Let the client be themself. Everyone looks great when they are being themself.
Have fun with each other! Your photographer knows what to do. There is no reason to pose much. There is a generally a direction we want to shoot toward, a place we want to be in to collect great photos. Just being yourself will let the best photographers in Portland do their work.
