Wedding Venue The Oasis Rooftop
Check out our new "Light up the night!" series of wedding photography here at Modern Art Photograph. We are very proud to offer our clientele this sharp and vibrant style of night photography that will show you and your party in the perfect light every time.
This couple made the decision to be photographed together before their wedding ceremony. If you don't mind seeing each other before your ceremony this really is the best way to get more time to shoot with you in our creative style of wedding photography.
With all of our unique and creative wedding photographs taken before your guests even begin to arrive, you can spend your ceremony and reception in the moment with your wedding guests. This is where our photojournalist wedding photography style takes over. The most meaningful wedding photographs come from this technique. Tears of joy, grandmothers and great aunts admiring your ring. All the moments that are just priceless to remember but so easily forgotten during a busy wedding day. Some of our clients have told us that they did not even notice us most of the evening and they cannot even believe how well the day was documented.

In looking for a wedding photographer it goes with out saying that you are looking for the best photographer that you have ever seen. After that you want to know that everything is taken care of.
Our customer service can not be beat. In most cases you will never have to ask for anything at all. If there is something that you would like us to offer on your wedding day that our packages do not include just ask and it will be taken care of. We want the best to just keep getting better for you.
At this wedding the bride and groom did not want to see each other before the ceremony. The reception offered us a few moments for photos of the bride and groom together but we needed a little more. After the reception we all went to one of our perfect little spots looking over the city skyline. We took this wedding photograph using a warm light to accent the unmistakable glow from the bride and groom, and how perfect it turned out.

Our recent wedding at Cornelius Pass Roadhouse in the Octagonal Barn

In the perfect wedding photograph the subject can stand out well against its background. Both subject and setting should be lit appropriately to create a feel of dimension. Great wedding photographs should appear to stand up off the page. Well composed wedding photography should draw your eye in and allow you to look at easily in order to observe the details. The composition should be a pleasure. Each wedding photograph should be no less than a work of art.
Each and every wedding we photograph receives the same quality of photography and attention to detail. Our straight level best is the only work you will ever see from us on any photo shoot regardless of the project or the budget.

Our Wedding at the View Point Inn this summer occurred less than a week before the fire. We are so happy that this great couples wedding experience was not interrupted by the disaster.
The top photo here was taken at sunset. The entire garden was washed in a soft golden light. We could not miss the moment, it was just to great. In order to make the shot we had to steal the bride and groom from their cocktail party for about five minutes. In most cases we would prefer to go with the flow of the party, but in this case the rule could only be broken.
In the middle left image we photographed a great moment shared between the groom and the new father in law. In the middle right photograph this is exactly what happened when I asked the guys to act natural.
In the lower photograph of this wedding set you will see the brides bouquet displayed on the garden steps. Notice the charm on the bouquet. The colors of this image are just so sharp and true it almost appears real.

Weatherford's Grand Lodge

Our first wedding that we photographed this season was held in the old Oddfellows lodge in Oregon City. What a great location for a wedding and an even better location for wedding photography. The rich tones in the wood floor and the unique moldings offer each photograph the character they deserve.
Each of these photos is shot in a true photojournalist style. If you don't know about photojournalist style it simply means that we took these wedding photographs as they occurred. They were not posed. Some families appreciate photojournalist wedding photography for the fact that it will not interrupt the day. Most families appreciate a set of traditional posed family photos at some point during the day. Our photography studio is happy to accommodate you in photographing your wedding in the style you appreciate.

At Modern Art Photograph we are very excited about some new equipment that we will be using for this summers weddings. First we have a brand new Nikon D7000 with 16.2 megapixels for bigger crisper images. The other piece of gear we are excited about is our portable wireless studio lighting system. All the light control of being in the studio brought to each shoot. Here are a few images taken at yesterdays engagement shoot using both new systems.

Portland Cityscape Engagement Shoot

Portland is such a beautiful city. At night on the waterfront with the lights reflecting toward you or walking through a quiet neighborhood. On this shoot we managed to find no shortage of twinkling lights and great views. Most couples have their engagement shoot during the day. It's nice to take advantage of those bright colors as well. If you can find the time I suggest having your engagement photos scheduled around sunset. Why not have it all?

Posed and Photojournalist shooting styles, blended together, is what you see here. Photojournalist shooting style by definition is a spontaneous approach to photography. Most people prefer the photojournalist image to the posed image, however, not everyone can just be in front of the camera and feel comfortable being spontaneous, let alone angle them self to the camera in a flattering way and get a great photo every time.
We have developed the perfect solution for this all to common problem. We photograph our clients in sets or groups of images. Each set starts with a flattering pose or angle, and we go from there. A set could be three or four photos or a set could be ten or twenty photos. There is no perfect formula. Its all a feeling that we get. Not every pose will work for every couple and that's where the real beauty of it is.
The best photos come during the shoot once the couple and the photographer have really figured each other out. This is why we strongly recommend an engagement shoot. A typical engagement shoot with us can be from two to five hours, plenty of time to become comfortable with each other and get some great photos as well.

Reception at the Governor Hotel in Portland Oregon

Early spring is such a great time for a wedding. Colors seem more vibrant after a long gray winter perhaps. Its still a little cool out side and perfect for wearing heavy wedding clothes.
From time to time the weather on your wedding day may not choose to cooperate with our plans for the day. A bridal shoot can be a good solution to getting plenty of great photographs together in your wedding clothes with out the pressure of the wedding and reception schedule to worry about.
We are glad to offer our bridal shoots either in studio or on location. Any location that is important to you is a great place for this type of shoot. Some people select the location where they were married, some people select the beach, some people prefer the mountains. We will be glad to go to the location that matters to you.

What a treat to photograph a wedding at the Columbia Gorge Hotel, such a beautiful estate with so much history. This particular day was far to nice to spend inside photographing against a background of antique decor. This shoot was brought together by the bride and groom gently slipping away from their reception. They found a few quiet places on the grounds and we took care of the rest.
At each wedding we enjoy photographing your venue in a way that shows off its own individual character. Its nice to have a few photographs that offer the classic views from your wedding venue as well as a few photographs offering fresh perspectives. At the end of the day what's done is done, so in our opinion you may as well photograph it all.

This wedding took place at McMenamins Edgefield, a small resort about 16 miles east of Portland. In total 900 photographs were taken at this wedding.
Here is a little info about our day photographing this wedding.
11:00 The day begins by photographing the grounds of the resort. These photographs gave us a good idea of places to take portraits as needed throughout the day and give an album greater character.
12:30 We arrived at the salon to photograph the bride and brides maids. Emotions are very clear in these photographs, everything from anxiety to tears of joy.
1:00 The groom and best men are suited up and ready for portraits. We head outside to take advantage of the spectacular landscaping and autumn colors.
1:30 The bride and brides maids are dressed and ready for photos applying make up and jewelry. Classic wedding photography highlights are captured here. Unposed photographs of soft white light pouring in around the bride and casual images of bridesmaids putting on the finishing touches come together perfectly.
2:00 The formal portraits began at the vineyard. Photographs came out perfect of the bride and groom in the warm autumn afternoon light. We walked through the grounds together collecting all the portraits we need in a variety of different locations.
4:00 The ceremony is about to begin. As with almost every wedding things are running a little behind. The officiate stands at the head of the room. The groom and best men walk down the isle. My Lighting assistant gives a nod to indicate everything is perfect. The bride enters the room with her father in arm and the guests rise. In a flash the ceremony is over. Vows and rings are exchanged. The mother of the bride is in tears and we have plenty of great photograph for you to remember always.
6:00 Dinner is now over. The toasts, the cake cutting, the first dance, the bouquet toss and the party is about to carry us well into the evening.
10:00 The evening is winding down, the bride and groom have just taken off in a uniquely decorated car. Its time to take down the lights and say good night.
